Latest Happenings

We've spent the past few weeks dealing with a horrible stomach virus so I've gotten behind on my blogging. I'm also in the process of making my blog book for 2011, which takes time away from my current blog!

We got the kids an Escalade Power Wheel for Christmas (thank you craigslist for making ridiculously expensive toys affordable). Darryl used his handyman skills to "spruce" up the power wheel by changing out the 12 volt battery and replacing it with his 18 volt drill battery. Dads are so cool. It goes pretty fast and the kids have a great time driving it up and down the street (with parental supervision, of course).

We also had a fun visit with Grandma and Grandpa Hicken last week. The kids always get so excited when they get to spend time with them! They are very fun grandparents! We had a great time, and I wish they lived closer so we could see them more often. My mom and I got to go do some grocery shopping together, which sounds so silly, but I really enjoyed being able to talk with her and spend some one-on-one time. I see people taking their relationships with their parents for granted because they get to see them on a weekly basis, but I treasure those little moments because they don't happen very often.

Valerie always tells me that she wants to marry Damon. She is convinced that he is the one for her. I tried telling her the other day that she couldn't marry her brother, and she was devastated. So I gave in and told her it would be just fine for her to marry Damon. She tells me that they will be married in the temple and he will kiss her. Be looking for the wedding announcement in about 18 years, and don't judge....the girl knows what she wants and nobody is going to stop her. :)

Anyway, Valerie didn't want to go to bed the other night and was not happy with me at bedtime. When I left her room she was crying. I went to the kitchen and got distracted doing some cleaning, and then I realized she was quiet. It was odd because she usually cries for a long time and doesn't give up easily. I went to check on her, and this is what I found....

Her sweet big brother was laying next to her reading her a book. It was so adorable. Now I know why she wants to marry him. It makes perfect sense.

What a nice brother. Damon reminds me a lot of Tyler.

Glad you got to spend some time with your parents. Last time I saw my parents was the last time I saw you! That picture of Damon reading to Valerie is so incredibly sweet.

That is so sweet. I love it! And it's so true, you don't realize what you have until you don't have it anymore. Treasure the moments with your family, even if it's something small like grocery shopping ;)
