Damon's 6th Birthday

Damon turned 6 on November 27th. We let him choose if he'd rather have a birthday party with friends or spend a special day with mommy and daddy. He chose the special day with mommy and daddy, and that made mommy really happy. :)

So, we went to McDonald's for lunch and then off to the movie theatre to see Puss In Boots. We had a fun afternoon!

His birthday landed on a Sunday so we opened gifts in the morning and then we were off to church!

I'm in love with this smile.

We have a pretty awesome primary that heart attacks your front door on your birthday. Damon was excited when he saw his name on the door.

His favorite gift..... (thanks Grandma and Grandpa Hicken!)

I want to write down some things about Damon at this age so I don't forget!

Damon is a stuffed animal hoarder. He sleeps with 12 stuffed animals on his bed, and they all have to have a space on his pillow or else he freaks out. I finally decided we needed to have a stuffed animal intervention when I found his head hanging off the bed in the middle of the night because there just wasn't enough room for his head on his pillow anymore. The stuffed animals had taken over. When I approached him about maybe getting rid of a few of them so he could have room on his bed to sleep, he nearly went into cardiac arrest. We finally agreed that he could keep them all, but they would have to sleep somewhere else. So now there are 6 stuffed animals sleeping under his bed on an old pillow, and they MUST have a blanket on them at night or else Damon will cry himself to sleep.

Damon is obsessed with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He would eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I would let him. But I'm not that nice.

Damon is brutally honest. I know he's only 6, but he can lower my self-esteem in an instant when he asks me what all the red dots on my face are.

Damon is the Lauritzen Family Comedian. He makes us laugh ALL the time. And the best part is that he can laugh at himself.

Damon has a kind heart and is very considerate of others. He notices things when I think he's not paying attention and loves to help me and make me happy. A lot of times when his little sister is throwing a fit, he will come up to her and do something ridiculous just to make her laugh and stop crying. I love that about him.

Damon has an out-of-this-world imagination. He is so good at playing all by himself and having an absolute blast.

We love you Damon! You are growing up WAY too fast and are becoming such a fun-loving handsome boy!

Oh man....had to laugh out loud at a few of those. Emma doesn't have that many stuffed animals but she does have a certain way that she does things that have to be that way or she freaks out. So I totally get it. And his brutal honesty made me laugh at loud!! Gotta love kids. Jacob had to teach Emma that she can't tell mommy, "Oh my mommy. You have a big bootie." Ahhh....to be thin without brutally honest kids. :)

Can't wait till we are closer and can spend time with you guys more. I love that Damon's favorite toy looks like he should have grown up in Afghanistan. haha

wow Damon has a lot in common with Tyler - the sandwiches, the imagination, and the kindess.
