The hotel we stayed in was right across the street from the beach. It was also within walking distance to all the downtown shops, so it was perfect.
Our first night there we went on a sunset cruise. The best part of the cruise was all the dolphins we saw! It was incredible. They stayed right at the front of the boat and it was almost like they were racing us.
Darryl planned a really fun day for us on Saturday. We went kayaking on the ocean, which I must admit was a little scary since I'm not a huge fan of the water, but it ended up being really fun. Our backs were sore the next day from paddling, it was a lot harder then I thought it would be!
After the kayaking, we stopped at a camp resort and had lunch in a little cafe there.
Then we headed up to a gorgeous ranch in the mountains and went horseback riding. I was imagining we would be riding on flat ground, not the case. We were going straight uphill and downhill on the horses. We could overlook all of Santa Barabara and the ocean when we got to the top...it was a beautiful view!
My horse's name was Dunnit. He was probably the worst horse of the whole group. He was the only one who kept stopping and trying to eat all the plants on the trail. While everyone else trotted along I was yankin on the reins yelling at my horse to quit being a fat cow. Of course, that's totally my luck. At one point I thought for sure he was a suicidal horse and was about to run us both off the edge of the cliff. Let's be real here, I was freakin out! :) But he eventually calmed down and obeyed.
Darryl's horse was Dolly. Of course she was the best behaved...no need to say anything else.
A few shots of our trip on the town...eating my favorite food (burgers and fries!)
Went for a walk on the pier and met a pirate friend
For our last night there we decided to try out one of the fancy restaurants on the harbor. Not a good idea. The food was disgusting and we kept talking about how we should have gone to the burger joint we ate at the day before. But we still had fun and had a great view of the beach! :)
On our way back home we drove past this incredibly huge tree!! We had to stop and take pictures because it was so outrageous. It is one of the biggest trees in North America, and was a crazy sight to see!
The trip was very fun and relaxing, and we can't wait to do it again! HUGE thanks to Ivan, Anne Marie and Donna for watching the kids for us while we were gone. The trip wouldn't have been possible without their willingness to help out and it meant a lot to us. We love you guys!

Little getaways are the best! Glad you had a good time and were able to do some fun stuff. I think I'll have to try out that kayaking thing after I am recovered from this baby- looks like lots of fun. I think I'll stay away from the horse riding though- I'd probably get a horse like yours :) Happy Anniversary!
I was busting up over the horse thing. We took a "romantic" horse ride on the beach during our honeymoon and guess whose horse felt the need to trot the whole freakin way?? yeah. so not cool. bahaha
Looks like you had an amazing time. I am glad you could get away. That is the nice thing about having family close-by. Happy anniversary!
So glad you had a good, relaxing time. So worth it to get away from reality for a little bit. We'll take your boys again anytime! :)
Did you guys pretend that you were on the "The Bachelor" or would it be "The Bachelorette?" I wish we had stayed on the beach instead of in the hills. The hills are cool but the beach hotels would have been more convenient.
Glad you had a good time! Now you're gonna be hooked and want to go away every year!
Glad you had such a wonderful time-but remember that's only for special occasions! :)
Wow...so fun! I was totally laughing with the horse story....so you! You look so good in all of the pics! Way to go!
I'm embarrassed that I've never been away for the night from my kids in 11 years of marriage. Someday. . .someday. . .Glad you had such an amazing time.
ou guys are so much fun! You two do soooo much all the time!! I am green with envy!! haha No just happy for you both!
Okay... I'm jealous. That boat ride with those dolphins looks fun. Not so sure about the horses though after your experience. :) Hopefully one day Spencer and I will do something like this.
