Go With the Flow

I had this brilliant idea to have Valerie spend a weekend with my sister Wendy and her girls. I was thinking it would be really good for Valerie to have some girl time. In the days leading up to her weekend overnighter she was so excited and couldn't stop talking about it.  So I sent her off to Irvine with Heather who was already planning on going out to Wendy's for the day. 

After I dropped her off I took the boys to visit daddy at work! They very rarely get to see daddy in his uniform and they were excited. (I have no idea why Kyle looks 4 months pregnant in this picture)

Just as we were saying goodbye to daddy I got a call from my sisters. Things weren't going well with Valerie. She was terrified and was refusing to stay at Wendy's.  She was crying hysterically that she wanted to come home. I was really annoyed because I had gone to a lot of trouble to make this weekend work for her and I was frustrated that she was freaking out. Later that day we had to go pick her up from Heather's house. When she got home and I asked her why she wouldn't stay with her cousins (still irritated at this point) she just said, "I was scared mommy. I just missed you because I love you." No longer irritated. Heart softened. Love being a mommy.

Sometimes things are not going to go the way I plan them or want them to.  I am learning to let go of my control and perfection issues and just- go with the flow.
